Peterborough Energy Action (PEA) was formed in September of 2019, when Dori Drachman, our chair, assembled a group of volunteers to plan a Sierra Club “Ready for 100” campaign.
We participated in Sierra Club trainings, which helped us plan our approach to persuading Peterborough residents to vote in favor of our warrant article at Town Meeting in May of 2021. The article would commit the town, including all residents, businesses, and institutions, to the goal of 100% reliance on renewable sources of electricity by 2030 and renewable sources for all other energy needs, including for heating and transportation, by 2050.
We have interviewed many people in Peterborough, gathered endorsements, tabled, conducted virtual community dialogues, held virtual events, developed publicity, collected more than 100 signatures to put our warrant article on the ballot, and worked to get out the vote.
We are grateful for the support we have received, through all of our activities, from the Monadnock Sustainability Hub.
When the voters pass the warrant article, the work of the original committee will be finished. The Select Board will then form a new committee to develop a plan for reaching our goal.
